As of September 1, 2021, 911 Glass Rescue has successfully crushed over 16 tons of glass, turning it into glass sand and glass aggregate. That’s 16 tons diverted from the local landfill. And that means about 8,000 wine bottles are not languishing on a pile of other garbage and filling up the dump, contributing to its early retirement! While glass does not release toxic gases or the like, it takes about 1 to 2 million years to decompose. As glass is endlessly recyclable and easily repurposed into sand and aggregate with a multitude of practical applications, that just makes no sense at all. Our customers agree: our last Saturday of operation, 8/28/21, saw a record number of patrons make use of our service. A number of them took away buckets of the end product to put to use. Way to crush it, Chelan Valley!
